Jessica Jiyeon survives the apocalypse in “Our Story”

After several months away from the music scene (minus OSTs & a few features) singer Jessica Jiyeon has made a roaring return with her new single “Our Story”, featuring 2012’s breakout vocalist Ailee!

"Our Story", written and produced by “Last Winter” hit maker Lee Seung Hyun, is a piano driven up tempo about dealing with an ex who can’t let go & attempting to cleanly sever all ties to them while allowing them to go with a shred of dignity, with lyrics:

“Just go back to her and live in your misery.
Because I’ve met someone else and I’m happy now.
Even if I wanted there isn’t a spot for you to come back to.
Don’t ever find me again.”

Lee Seung Hyun has stated the song is a spiritual successor to “Last Winter” and that he wanted it to be the final “f**k you” to an emotionally attached  ex. The boldness of the lyrics has left some critics, most of whom were taken with Jessica’s return to the sensitive girl next door image last year, surprised by the musical direction.

“She’s still the girl next door.” Seung Hyun responded. “Just the girl next door with a few drinks in her & a lot of pent up rage.” 

“Adding an explosive voice like Ailee’s to such an emotionally charged song was a treat. The dynamic between her & Jessica is unlike any I’ve ever witnessed in my 30+ years of making music. I think everyone will be blown away with this song.”

The MV is a big budget disaster flick that has a brokenhearted Jessica ignoring the chaos of the end of the world as the pain from a recent heartbreak takes precedence. As meteors crash, buildings crumble & rioters run rampant Jessica is seen in a fog as the song progresses only letting go once she joins Ailee in an underground, “End Of The World” party.

The song has been performing quite well on the real time charts, topping Melon 30 minutes after its release & occupying the #2 spot on Soribada and Bugs, behind f(x).
