Tiffany Taeyeon made her first public appearance since her miraculous return at tonight's 2012 Diamond Disk K-Pop Awards in Seoul. The DDKAs is one of the biggest awards shows in Asia, but organizers for the show hadn't announced Tiffany's involvement, making her unexpected arrival on the red carpet a complete shock.
The controversial songstress sent photographers into a frenzy when she arrived fashionably late and alone, with only one bodyguard in tow to keep paparazzi and saesang fans at bay. She stopped to pose for photos, but refused to answer any questions from fans or reporters. Many were not only shocked by Tiffany's cold silence, but also her chic and conservative "dark angel" red carpet look, which marked a 180 degree transformation from her former outrageous style.
Tiffany opted not to sit in the audience during the show, but she later left everyone in shock once again by stepping out on stage for a surprise performance. The singer, who bared her feminine curves in a revealing black bodysuit, performed a three-song medley of tracks from her Friday Night Fever album. She showed off her powerful choreography and stunning physique as she energetically danced her way through "S.W.A.G.", "Do Da Disco", and "If U Want 2", but her blatant miming was obvious to everyone watching, and left many people wondering why she couldn't have included some live vocals like all the other performers that night did.
Tiffany was nominated for three awards at the show: Best Music Video - Female, Best Full-Length Album - Female, and Album of the Year, but lost out to IU, BoA, and Busker Busker, respectively. Her Girls' Revolution bandmates were also nominated for awards on the night: HyunA Knowles and Jessica Jiyeon competed against each other for Best Mini-Album - Female, for their EPs, Million Dollar Babe and Book of Love, but lost out to Ga-In's Talk About S, while Suzy Sooyoung missed out on winning Best Rookie TV Star - Female, losing to her Idol Investigations castmate, Sunhwa. It wasn't all bad news though, with Jessica picking up Best Pop Vocal Performance - Female for her Ailee duet, "Our Story". The 'Best Friend Idol' made no mention of Tiffany or her former agency, White Entertainment, during her acceptance speech, instead profusely thanking her manager and KRS Media CEO, KellyRose Spires, for "always believing in me when others didn't and fighting to have my voice heard."
Shell-shocked netizens flooded our forum once the DDKAs wrapped up, commenting: "I find it suspicious that Tiffany walked the red carpet and performed, yet she still hasn't explained her disappearance...", "Tiffany's depressing all-black look makes me believe that she is scarred and traumatized by whatever happened to her", "Can Tiffany please get over Friday Night Fever? That album is like a year old now", and "Why didn't HyunA Knowles and Suzy attend the show?".
